Full Programme of Carnival Events for 2011
Start 2011 off a new carnival year by participating on some of the fantastic classes the Beat Carnival have to offer.
All classes and workshops are held in the Beat Carnival centre and there is something in our programme for all ages:
Mondays: Puppet Making
Ages 18+
6:00-8:00pm: From the 10th January to the 21st March
Mondays sees the Beat’s continued commitment to puppet design, construction and performance with some of Northern Irelands leading puppeteers. The Puppet Laboratory will take your creation skills to another level as you construct and develop your own puppet’s form and personality in a relaxed, informative and creative space in the Beat Carnival Centre.
Mondays: Advanced Carnival Drumming
Ages 18+
6:00-8:00pm: Starting 10th January
Advanced Carnival Drumming will take you to the roots of Brazilian carnival performance as the Beat Carnival hosts ongoing regular classes in Carnival Drumming. This year learn the traditional styles of North East Brazil and take time to construct your own traditionally made drum. Learn to combine the energy of Samba Drums with popular music and prepare for some very special projects in June for the Belfast City Carnival and throughout the year in this intensive and rewarding class.
Tuesdays: Tiny Beat Carnival Arts
Ages 4-11yrs:
6:15-7:45pm Starting 25th January
Tiny Beat is the Beat’s Carnival skills programme that will introduce many different aspects of carnival arts, unlocking the creativity of your little performer. With a programme aimed at primary schools, the Beat’s accomplished and experienced tutors will guide students through the most fun and creative aspects of carnival production involving music, dance, performance, drumming and costume.
Tuesdays: Beatniks Carnival Arts
Ages 18+
6:30-7:30pm Starting 25th January
Beatniks is the Beat’s carnival arts programme aimed at you, the parents of Tiny Beat. Beatniks are also encouraged to be involved in the classes with their children, but are also given opportunities for their own skills training through dedicated 18 sessions per year. This programme encourages everyone in the family to be part of the group and participate in events together.
Wednesdays: Carnival Creations Carnival Arts
Ages 10-18yrs
7:30-9:00pm Starting 26th January
Carnival Creations Carnival Arts training programme has been now running for over 10 years, giving valuable training and experience to teenagers. Top facilitators and from the Beat and Industry experts give students the chance to continue their immersion into carnival arts covering dance, movement, theatre, costume, construction, music and puppetry.
Thursday: Open Samba Drumming Classes.
Ages 18+
6:00-8:00pm Starting 13th January
For Seven years the Beatndrum Carnival Band have rehearsed every Thursday, to this date over 60 people have learned and performed high quality, orchestrated percussion to hundreds of thousands of people. Come and learn the high energy rhythms of Brazilian Samba with Northern Ireland’s top Brazilian percussion teachers. Classes are free and are held within the Beat Carnival’s purpose built sound room.
