Belfast St Patrick's Day Carnival Parade

Sunday 16 March 2014 - 12:00 to 13:00
Belfast Lord Mayor Mairtin O'Muilleoir poses with members of the Beat Carnival team and Tiny Beat, and a customised TARDIS

On Sunday 16 March Belfast will come alive with a colourful carnival atmosphere for all the family to enjoy. St Patrick is travelling from the past into the future  –  he is visiting Belfast on the way!

You will encounter his time machines in the city centre during St Patrick’s Carnival Parade on 16th March. The spectacular floats include our own Back To The Future flying DeLorean – and watch out for St Patrick the Time Lord landing here in his TARDIS. Hundreds of time travellers will be on the singing, dancing carnival journey – and there will be a very special feature in the parade: a brand new Belfast song, premiered by a gigantic Beat Street Choir.

We will also be showcasing our Beat Big Drums - custom-made, oversized bodhrans, lambegs and alfaias (a type of Brazilian drum) in a uniquely local celebration of our shared culture here in Belfast.

The carnival leaves from Belfast City Hall at 12 noon and is free to attend. The parade will finish at Custom House Square where an outdoor concert will take place. See the Belfast City Council website for more information.

For the last few months, we've been working with participants from community groups and organisations all over Belfast in preparation for this big, noisy, joyful celebration on our shared streets. We hope to see you there!

Update: Now that the carnival parade has passed, you can watch videos of it here!
