The Beat Carnival is planning the Belfast City Carnival on Saturday 19 June. This year’s Carnival theme is Puppet Picnic. A Carnival Puppet parade will wind through the City Centre streets finishing at Belfast City Hall where participants and puppets can enjoy an afternoon of performance and music. We are inviting groups from across Belfast and elsewhere to make puppets and take part in the event in June.
In 2010 The Beat Carnival are changing the way that we work with the groups taking part in our carnival programme. Our new programme offers groups different levels to get involved but more importantly, it helps groups to develop their skills each time they take part with The Beat Carnival.
Please contact us to receive A Carnival Academy Action Pack. This will explain more about the new ways to participate. An overview of the options to chose from:
- Bronze or Silver Beat Carnival Academy programmes (which will be explained in the Action Pack) – These programmes will mainly concentrate on puppet making skills in the coming weeks.
- Raising of The Dragon – This is a programme in partnership with the Chinese Welfare Association. The Beat Carnival and CWA will work with 10 groups of 10 people in new and unique skills involving performance and martial arts. This will be the first ever Raising of the Dragon in Northern Ireland. Participants for this programme must be aged 16+. If you chose this option we will be in touch with more detailed information.
- Register with your own entry without having any programme workshops from The Beat Carnival. We just ask that you fit in with the Puppet Picnic or have a Carnival theme. Please note that no motorised vehicles are permitted in the Carnival.
So to get involved all you need to do is contact us to receive The Carnival Academy Action Pack, decide which programme is best for you and return the registration form, which you will receive with the Action Pack. We are also offering groups the chance to meet with us to discuss participation in more detail. We have set aside Monday 10 May between 5:00pm – 9:00pm and Wednesday 12 May between 10:00 – 4:00pm at The Beat Carnival Centre. If you would like to meet with us please call us by Friday 7 May to arrange a specific time.
Please pass this on to others who think may be interested. Apologies if you have received this more than once. If you no longer wish to receive information from the Beat Carnival please respond to let us know.
We look forward to hearing from you,
The Beat Carnival Team
