Beat Carnival has received funding from BBC Children in Need to develop a Dance and Drum Project across Belfast for 100 children and young people.
The programme will involve the delivery of:
10 carnival drumming workshops with 5 groups
– Beat Carnival on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm (16th September – 2nd December)
– in partnership with Ballynafeigh Community Development Association during their summer scheme (July-August)
– in partnership Wandsworth Community Development Association on Monday evenings from 7-9pm (14th September – 30th November)
– in partnership with Denmark Street Residents Association on Friday evenings from 7-9pm (25th September – 11th December)
– in partnership with Colin Glen (dates TBC)
10 carnival dancing workshops with 2 groups
– Beat Carnival on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm (22nd September – 30th November)
– in partnership with Ballynafeigh Community Development Association during their summer scheme (July-August)
The project will give 100 children and young people the opportunity to work with artists within a workshop setting learning creative skills in a drum and dance form. The children and young people will develop skills in music development, performance and will learn how to combine carnival dancing and drumming to form a Urban Ballet performance.
The dancing and drumming workshops at the Beat Carnival Centre will be open to children and young people aged 7 years old and above. To get more information about these workshops please email Rebecca – workshops@beatcarnival.com
