David Boyd, Beat Carnival Director, is delighted to announce the appointment of the new Beat Carnival Chief Executive-Artistic Director:
“As Founder-Director of Beat Carnival, establishing Beat Carnival Centre, growing the company and artform with countless beneficiaries across Northern Ireland over 32 years—this summer is a momentous time of handing over leadership into a new era. I am tremendously happy to emerge successfully from long, transition recruitment, not only for one but two original-leadership posts… Director and Operations Manager (Jean) both of us retiring. Jo Lamont has started as Operations Manager: now we announce the new Beat Carnival Chief Executive-Artistic Director, Andrew Loretto.
It’s fantastic for me to have an inspirational quality of hope and confidence when handing over this quite unique role. I have no doubt that Andrew, with his qualities, will immediately be at home in the big Beat family, while opening new, marvellous vistas for future-Beat. Originally from Belfast, Andrew is an internationally experienced director, writer, dramaturg and producer for outdoor, indoor and site-responsive performance and theatre. He is currently Director of Hat Fair and Playmakers, for Play to the Crowd, Winchester. Hat Fair is one of the UK’s longest running festivals of local, national and international Outdoor Arts.”
Andrew says,
“Having worked in the Outdoor Arts sector all over the UK and internationally, I can’t wait to bring my experiences to Belfast and the brilliant team at Beat Carnival. Having grown up in Northern Ireland at a very different time in its history, I look forward to returning home and celebrating the joy, colour, diversity of local, national and international communities on our streets and spaces. Beat Carnival has built an extraordinary legacy of work led by David and Jean Boyd and it’s an honour to be entrusted with taking this forward.”
Andrew’s post with Beat Carnival commences 11th August.
