Carnival Weekend – Puppet Picnic – 18-20 June

On Friday 18 June, we will be holding an open workshop in Victoria Square 4-6pm for anyone who would like to come along and make a puppet to bring with them to watch the parade and to join in the puppet picnic. There will be some of our own puppets walking around that you can introduce yourself to, and from 5.30-6.30pm our own Samba band Beat n’ Drum will be doing a performance piece. This year we are delighted to have the Brazilian band Bongar taking part in the parade. If anyone would like to hear them before that they will be performing at the Black Box Café, Hill St from 7.30-8.30pm.

On Saturday 19 June in Victoria Square from 10.00-12.00 there will be another open workshop to make puppets for the parade. The puppet parade will leave Custom House Square at 12.30 and we will dance our way to the City Hall were we will have a huge puppet picnic. There are lots of activities going to be happening in the City Hall grounds throughout the afternoon such as live music, Bollywood dance workshops, henna stations, Jitterbug Jackson Hughrobics, Brazilian dance workshop, circus performances and the first ever Raising of the Dragon performance in Northern Ireland. On Saturday night, there will be a Carnival Party in the Mandela Hall, Queen’s University featuring more local and international music acts.
