Well! It’s certainly been a busy month since Culture Night, no rest for the wicked, as the saying goes! (wickedly awesome in our case ;p )
BEATnDRUM have been busy as usual delivering their boisterous, groovy, brand of carnival beats the length of the country from L,Derry to Ballynahinch via Craigavon and Newcastle! They even had time to throw in some new dance moves.
They have welcomed several new members into their fold since the success of their combined performance on Culture Night. They are working exclusively on producing an entirely new set of music for next years events.
Our famous “BIG HEADS” have been hard at it this month too with “Big Jim” and his da, “Frankie”, heading down to Donaghadee to take part in Ards Borough Councils “Living History” Event. They had a great laugh playing tug of war and throwing wellies, Frankie even managed (somehow?!) to get himself involved in a highland dancing demonstration at the main stage!
Our young carnivalistas in the making “Tiny Beat” have been meeting every Wednesday night and working on producing their own Halloween Play.
Our Youth Bloco percussion programme has begun again with Damian out at Wandsworth Community Centre working with their band to produce a performance for a Christmas Lantern parade in December.
Matt has been working with the pupils out at Brownlow Integrated College in Craigavon. Who are also working towards an end of term showcase performance.
Matt was also working with a group from Priory Integrated College in Holywood and a group from Dublin Istitute of technology who traveled up to Belfast for a weekend long percussion workshop.
So we just have 2 more performances to give to round October off. They will be tonight at Craigavon Borough Councils Halloween event at Rushmere shopping centre and then tomorrow at Down District Councils Hallowtides event in Newcastle. BEATnDRUM, SAMBANIMALS and our BIG HEADS will be in full effect! Come and say hello if you’re nearby!
So that’s all the public stuff, behind the scenes the action is all go in the office preparing for next year making big plans and dreaming of fantastic creations.
Our newest staff member, Geraldine, has hit the gound running and is working on big things with David. We will introduce you to Gerladine formally in the near future!
