St Patrick’s Zoetrope

St Patrick and the Dinosaurs might have been a new one for some, and a bit hard to swallow (quite bony) but you’ve heard of St PATRICK and the ZOETROPE… right? Well you have now. It’s more to do with the BELFAST theme of the Parade, mind, rather than St Pat himself. In the Belfast Quarters > Titanic Quarter section of the Belfast St Patrick’s Day Parade you’ll see a giant Zoetrope. You know… ‘wheel of life’ – a pre-film animation device that produces the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion – to borrow from WikiP.

Looking though the spinning Zoetrope slits you will see a typical everyday Titanic Quarter shipyard scene (hammer, hammer) – so the Zoetrope float makes reference to the shipyard PLUS the thriving film industry of the area. There’s value for money!
